The Mission
“I stand on the shoulders of giants. On the shoulders of those who came before me. On those on the journey upward who made sure to leave the ladder down. On those who looked back, saw themselves, and lifted others up.”
The Spark
That ignited the fire in my belly
While my journey doesn’t begin here, my time collegiate years provided me something more powerful than any degree; an education into how to make difficult choices like whether to pay for a semester of school or having a roof over my head.
I carry this lesson with me always, to remind myself of where my lifelong conviction to public service began. When I walked across that stage, with a degree in hand but nowhere to live, I became more determined than ever to confront the systemic inequities I experience first-hand.
Where I’ve Been
where I am & where I’m going next
From crafting policy in legislative chambers of the Virginia General Assembly, to hitting the pavement mobilizing my community in service of Democracy; I remain dedicated to advancing the policies, to building the coalitions, and amplifying the voices that shape a more equitable and inclusive future for all of us.
The journey ahead is not set in stone. However I pray everyday to always remember my roots, to be mindful of the present, to continue moving forward but never forgetting to look back.
TO MY COLLEAGUES IN THE NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE OF YOUNG PROFESSIONALS
It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility that I announce my candidacy for Executive Vice President of the National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP). My journey within the NULYP movement has been grounded in service, strengthened by structure, and driven by a commitment to building systems that sustain and scale our impact. As a former President of the Greater Richmond chapter of Young Professionals and current Eastern Region Vice President, I have had the privilege of leading at both the chapter and national levels. These experiences have not only shaped my leadership style, but have also equipped me with a clear understanding of how strong infrastructure, intentional coordination, and strategic alignment are essential to organizational success.
During my tenure as Chapter President, I prioritized building strong internal frameworks; ensuring that our bylaws, leadership structures, and operational procedures were clearly defined and consistently executed. This work was not just about compliance, but about sustainability; creating systems that allowed our chapter to grow, remain accountable, and deliver measurable impact. That same commitment guides my work as Eastern Region Vice President, where I support chapters across varying stages of development, helping them navigate governance challenges, improve reporting practices, and align more effectively with national expectations. Through this experience, I have developed a unique vantage point on where gaps exist; and more importantly, how to close them. These experiences directly inform my platform and vision for the Office of Executive Vice President.
As part of my committment to being accessible and transparent, you may schedule a time to speak with me personally about my vision for NULYP using the contact form below. I hope to count on your support on July 30th.
Thank You,
Tyrone Williams
